Despite damp, rainy conditions at last weekâ€™s Old Settlers Days, Ken Lundquist, secretary-treasure of Whitley Countyâ€™s Shrine Club, said elephant ear sales were through the roof.
Lundquist said Saturday the club sold the festival novelty at a rate of 100 ears per hour â€” an increase of 15-20 percent from last year â€” and more than 800 in one day.
â€śWe were very successful,â€ť Lundquist said. â€śWe sold more this year than any other.â€ť
Lundquist was quick to tout the support of the Whitley County community.
â€śWe couldnâ€™t do it without those who stood out in the rain to buy an elephant ear,â€ť Lundquist said.
