COLUMBIA CITY â Tragedy struck again this week, as another young child drowned in Whitley County Saturday.
Lucas Junk, 2, was the second toddler in four months in Whitley County who lost his life in a matter of minutes after falling into a body of water.
âOur hearts go out to his loved ones,â September McConnell, executive director for the Whitley County Community Foundation wrote in a letter submitted to The Post & Mail, which will be published Friday. âWe remember other families whose painful wounds were undoubtedly re-opened, having endured their own losses from drowning accidents in the past.â
The tragedy has brought the importance of youth swim lessons to the minds of many parents, especially Michelle Morrison, who nearly lost her young daughter in a friendâs swimming pool.
Morrison, her husband and five children were enjoying a pool party last summer when their lives were forever changed.
Her husband, Eli, was close-by tending to another child when their four-year-old daughter, Myah, fell in the water.
âWe heard someone scream, âyour daughter, your daughter!,ââ Michelle Morrison said. âI look up to see them pulling my baby girl out of the pool, lifeless and blue.
