IN LIKE A LION: Early March storms marching across Indiana

March 2, 2012

Severe storms move into southwest Indiana

Severe storms are moving into Indiana as the National Weather Service issues tornado warnings in the southwestern part of the state.

Posey County Sheriff Greg Oeth says a powerful storm damaged a house and several other structures near Wadesville about 1:45 p.m. Friday. No injuries were reported.

Sheriff's deputies reported several funnel clouds aloft, but Oath says officials believe the damage was from strong straight-line winds.

WFIE-TV in Evansville says weather spotters reported tennis ball-sized hail in the area.

The weather service issued tornado warnings for northern sections of Posey, Vanderburgh and Warrick counties.

Some schools in the area dismissed classes early because of the severe weather that was predicted to hit Indiana Friday afternoon. Forecasters warned of severe thunderstorms with the threat of tornadoes crossing much of the Midwest.
