COLUMBIA CITY — In 2013, the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) set a record for accepting new member applications.
In 2013, DAR approved 13, 906 applications, which is more than any other year in the Society's 123 year history. DAR membership has been growing continuously since 2007 and the past three years have all ranked in the top five for years with the most applications approved.
The Colonel Augustin de la Balme DAR Chapter in Whitley County has been happy to be a part of that growth. The chapter welcomed eight new members whose applications were recently approved.
To attain membership in DAR, each lady compiled documentation proving she was a direct descendant of a person who fought in and/or supported the American Revolutionary War. Their application and documentation were reviewed and verified by DAR genealogists at National Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
