Logan Irwin splits with Stetson

DELAND — Former Whitko basketball stand-out and freshman point guard at Stetson University Logan Irwin has left the Division I school and plans to transfer closer to home.

“We’re obviously disappointed. We had high hopes for Logan,’’ Head Coach Casey Alexander told the Daytona News Journal. “He was brought here to be part of the solution to get our program headed in the right direction. For him to decide to leave so quickly puts us in a bind, but we understand he’s a long way from home.

“If he thinks he needs to get back home, there’s nothing we can or should say about it other than wish him the best."

The 5-foot-10 Irwin is the all-time leading scorer at Whitko. An announcement has not been made regarding where Irwin plans to transfer.

He averaged 5.9 points and 2.9 assists in seven games for Hatters. He was 5-of-7 from 3-point range and 14-of-16 at the free-throw line. He averaged 21.7 minutes per game.
