Madge Mathias, 94

Madge M. Mathias, 94, of Richland Township, died at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Columbia City, where she had been a resident since Jan. 28.
She was born Nov. 2, 1918, in Grant County, a daughter of Ward B. and Hester (Craig) Sharp. As a teen, her family moved to Kosciusko County.
On April 16, 1938, she was united in marriage to Jess T. Mathias. They always made their home on the Mathias family farm in Richland Township, moving to their home on 600 West in 1974. Mr. Mathias died March 28, 1999.
She was employed at Columbia City Joint High School and later Marshall Middle School until her retirement in 1983.
Her church of membership was New Hope Wesleyan Church.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Karen L. (Ronald) Wolf and Janet Sue (Robert) Patterson both of Larwill; five grandchildren, Joe Wolf, Andy Wolf, Shelia Jackson, Paul Ramp and Josh Reister; five stepgrandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 26 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson and a brother, William Sharp.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Larwill. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to New Hope Wesleyan Church.
