Majorie Knafel, 69

Marjorie L. Knafel, 69, of rural Columbia City, died at 6:25 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at Vibra Hospital, Fort Wayne. She had been battling lung cancer for the past few months.
She was born July 23, 1943, in VanWert, Ohio, a daughter of Charles R. and Georgia Victoria (Fronefield) Mason. Her formative years were spent in Van Wert. She graduated from Lincolnview High School.
On Jan. 23, 1965, she was united in marriage to Larry T. Knafel. They made their home in Hoagland for five years and Vendocia, Ohio for two years before moving to their home in Whitley County. Mr. Knafel died Nov. 4, 2011. She began her employment at Whitley Manufacturing in 1973, retiring in March 2001.
Her memberships include Navy Club Ship 48 Auxiliary and American Legion Post #82 Auxiliary.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Kimberly (Ronald) Benson of Fort Wayne and Laura (Tony) Wendt of Avon; three grandchildren, Victoria and Jackson Wendt and Mason Benson as well as two brothers, Richard Mason of Frankfort and Robert Mason of Glendale, Ariz.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Della McClain.
The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with visitation after 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to American Lung Association or Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.
