A North Manchester man was arrested Monday evening after he allegedly locked a woman and her child in the trunk of his car, sexually assaulted the mother and then fled police.
Thirty-six-year-old Bill Warren faces two counts of felony criminal confinement and one count of felony fleeing law enforcement after Monday’s ordeal, according to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.
According to police, Warren called a 26-year-old female acquaintance and met with her around midnight Monday near State Routes 13 and 14 where he allegedly threatened her with a box cutter utility knife and forced her and her three-year-old daughter into the trunk of his car.
Warren then drove to a secluded area near the county line with Kosciusko and Wabash counties where he allegedly took off the woman’s clothes, handcuffed her to a tree and sexually assaulted her for several hours.
The alleged victim told police that during the ordeal Warren would allow her to redress to check on her child in the trunk.
After he released the woman and her child, she called police and met with them at the scene of the alleged assault. Warren drove past the area while police were there and then allegedly fled.
He crashed in Wabash County, near county roads 1100 North and 800 East.
Several police departments surrounded the area and with the help of three K-9 units, including one from the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department, eventually chased Warren onto state Route 114 where he was arrested.
