SAFE & SOUND: Man rescued from Raber Elevator; trapped for 8 hours

A man was airlifted after being stuck in a grain bin at this elevator on Raber Road Friday night.

COLUMBIA CITY — A man was saved early Saturday morning night after being trapped inside a silo on Raber Road for nearly eight hours.

Around 4 p.m. Friday, the man was found buried to his waist in soybeans, he wasn't removed until 12:13 a.m. Saturday.

Firefighters from Jefferson Township, Columbia City and Fort Wayne responded with ladder trucks and local farmers provided grain vacuums to lower the level of grain, allowing rescuers to free the man's legs.

The Whitley County Sheriff's Department shut down Ind. 14 in to make way for Samaritan helicopter, which the man was transported in.
