Marilee J. Fleck, 88, of Columbia City, died at 8:57 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne where she was transported earlier in the day.
She was born March 25, 1923 in South Bend, a daughter of Charles and Frances (Smith) Austin. At the age of five, her family moved to a farm in Richland Township. She graduated from Larwill High School in 1941.
On July 2, 1956 she was united in marriage to Robert W. Fleck. They always made their home in Columbia City. Mr. Fleck died Nov. 10, 1979.
She was employed at Weatherhead for 23 years, Columbia Township School for 11 years and retired from the City of Columbia City in December 1988 with more than 12 years of service.
Her memberships included Oak Grove United Methodist Church since 1943 and she was an avid I.U. fan.
Surviving relatives include two nephews and two nieces, Terry Austin of North Manchester, Jeanne (Gary Sutter) Smith of South Whitley, Bob (Jennifer) Austin of Fort Wayne and Diane (Fred) Parkinson of Warsaw; 12 nieces and nephews; and nine great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Verda Austin.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery. The visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
