Marjorie Madeline Krider Thompson, 88, formerly of South Whitley, died at 12:55 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011 at Millerâ€™s Merry Manor, Columbia City.
She was born June 7, 1922 in Topeka, Kan., a daughter of Chauncey and Dessie (Anderson) Hurd. As a young child her family moved to Whitley County. She attended school in Larwill and graduated from Larwill High School.
On Nov. 2, 1940 she was united in marriage to Max L. Krider, Sr. They made their home in Whitley County. Mr. Krider died Dec. 23, 1977. On May 5, 1983 she was united in marriage to Donald F. Thompson. They made their home in Fort Wayne. After Mr. Thompson died May 10. 1995, she moved to Decatur and then to South Whitley.
She was employed by the former 30 Club and from 1978 to 1983 she was a custodian at the Columbia City High School. Her memberships included Oak Grove Church of God.
Surviving relatives include four sons, Stephen (Glenda) Krider, Sr. of Altus, Okla, Terry (Peggy) Krider of Decatur, Dennis (Diann) Krider of Loon Lake and Max (Patricia) Krider, Jr. of Columbia City; 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, William Hurd of South Whitley; and a sister, Maxine Judd of South Whitley
In addition to her husbands she was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Stanley and Garland Hurd; a sister, Ilo Smith and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery. The visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
