â€˘ Blood drive - 8 a.m.
Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon, First Church of God, Columbia City, two organizations are joining together to help save lives.
The Girl Scouts and the American Red Cross are hosting Give Blood â€” Get a Cookie blood drives in communities across Northern Indiana and select locations in Michigan for the second year.
Girl Scout cookies will be served after donating blood at special blood drives during January.

â€˘Quilting club - 4 p.m.
The Whitley County Country Quilters Guild meets the last Tuesday of the month at Grace Lutheran Church in Columbia City to promote the appreciation, enjoyment and knowledge of quilting as an art form and a craft.
Quilters and novices are invited and encouraged to attend.
Tuesday the group will gather for All-Sew from 4 to 6 p.m. then the business meeting starts at 6 p.m.
Attendees will be making quilted postcards with Pat Heinbaugh as the speaker and teacher.
Participants should plant to bring machines along with fabric scraps, ribbon, lace, etc., and a non-perishable food donation for the church food pantry.
â€˘Railroad event - 6 p.m.
Railroad historian and Fort Wayne resident Craig Berndt will be holding a presentation Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Peabody Public Library, 1160 E Ind. 205, Columbia City. Itâ€™s free and open to the public.
Thursday, Jan. 30
â€˘Financial aid night - 6 p.m.
The Columbia City High School Guidance Department will be hosting a Financial Aid Night Thursday, Jan. 30 at 6 p.m. in the Columbia City High School Media Center.
A financial aid representative from a local university will be on land to answer your questions about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
All college bound seniors, and juniors who plan to graduate early, must file a FAFSA by March 10, 2014.
Saturday, Feb. 1
â€˘Fish fry - 4 p.m.
The Tri-Lakes Lions Club is holding a Fish and Tenderloin Fry as a fundraising activity.
It will be held Saturday, Feb. 1 from 4 to 7 p.m.
The Lions Club would like to attendees to bring a canned food item to be donated to support a local food pantry in Tri-Lakes.
This includes an all-you-can-eat dinner, beverage and dessert.
Carryout dinners are available.
The supper will be held at the Tri-Lakes Lions Hall on Colony Avenue at Tri-Lakes, E. of Shriner Lake on the south side of Round Lake.
Proceeds generated from this fundraising project will go towards the Lions District projects, and other local Lionâ€™s projects.

â€˘Blood drive - 12:30 p.m.
Upcoming American Red Cross Blood Drives are Wednesday, Feb. 5 from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the South Whitley United Methodist Church located at 6685 W. Ind. 14.
An additional blood drive will be held Thursday, Feb. 13 from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Parkview Whitley Hospital in the auditorium, located at 1260 East Ind. 205 in Columbia City.
Tuesday, Feb. 18
â€˘ Library contest - 6 p.m.
The Peabody Public Library will host its annual Jeopardy! contest Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 6 p.m.
There is no fee to be involved, and the library is searching for participants.

Wednesday, March 12
â€˘Legion meeting - 6 p.m.
The Garrett American Legion Post 178 will have a meeting on Wednesday, March 12 at 6 p.m. The topic of the meeting will be â€śAgent Orange.â€ť
Vietnam Veterans or a family members there, are invited to come join. Brain Lamm will be there.
Admission is free. Attendees do not need to be a member of the Post 178. Garrett American Legion Post 178 address is 515 W 15 Ave. on the south end of Garrett.
