Fireworks demo
Franciscan Fireworks will be hosting a fireworks demo at 2300 E Cardinal Dr. Friday 8 p.m. Chairs will not be provided so spectators will need to bring their own.

Clothing giveaway Saturday
The Center will be sponsoring a free clothing giveaway for anyone in need Saturday Mens, womens, and children’s sizes available. The giveaway will start at 9 a.m. The Center is located at 201 W. Market St. in Columbia City.

Col. City FFA
The Columbia City FFA livestock judging will be competing at the 2012 Indiana State contest this Saturday. For more info contact Tyler Johnson 609-6318.

Humane Shelter auction Saturday
The Whitley County Human Shelter will hold an auction and banquet Saturday at Eagle’s Nest Event Center in Columbia City. Doors open at 5 p.m. with a light dinner and live music by Ivory West. A live auction will take place at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person and are available for purchase at the door.

SGCS staff recognition night
Smith Green Community Schools will be celebrating staff members with 10, 20, and 30 years of service as well as six retirees. They will be honored with a reception starting at 6 p.m. on May 21 at the Smith-Green Community Schools cafeteria. Light refreshments will be served and the public is welcome to attend.

Drug lecture for community
South Whitley/Cleveland Township Fire Department and the Whitley County Drug Task Force are hosting an informative lecture on K2 / Spice, bath salts, methamphetamines and prescription drug abuse. Anyone interested in learning how to combat the abuse of these drugs is welcome to attend. The lecture will take place May 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the South Whitley Fire Station.

VFW “Buddy Poppies” available
The VFW will be distributing “Buddy Poppies” May 25 and 26 as a way to fund raise exclusively for the benefit of disabled and needy veterans as well as the widows and orphans of deceased veterans. VFW #5582 poppies will be available at People Federal Savings Bank’s downtown branch on South Main Street and Ace Hardware located on Diplomat Drive.
