CHAMBER ECONOMIC FORECAST
COMING FEBRUARY 1
COLUMBIA CITY – A popular favorite with the Whitley County Chamber, Jim O’Donnell joins the organization again this year to take a good look at what the economy has done and what the “forecast” will be.
On staff at Huntington University, O’Donnell has authored several books and provides with a humorous, thought-provoking and encouraging look at the challenges of the current economy. He also gives sage advice on investment strategies for today’s markets. This is not just another lecture, but an informative and well-educated reflection by a wise and witty concerned citizen.
The Chamber’s Economic Forecast breakfast is Wednesday, Feb. 1, at the new Parkview Whitley Hospital’s lower level rooms A-B from 7:30-9 a.m.
Local business members will listen, learn and interact on this important subject, noted Chamber officials.
Cost is $6 for chamber members and $10 for non-members and registration is due by Monday, Jan. 30. Register on-line at www.whitleychamber.com, or by calling the Chamber office, 260 248-8131.

"LOOK GOOD, FEEL BETTER' FOR CANCER PATIENTS
HAS DEADLINE COMING JAN. 31
COLUMBIA CITY _ COLUMBIA CITY – The Whitley County Giving Circle for Women’s Health will offer the well known “Look Good, Feel Better” program locally for women with cancer.
The next session is planned for Monday evening, Feb. 13, from 6:30–8 p.m. There is no cost for the program, but advance reservations are required.
The Whitley County Workshop will be conducted at the Community Foundation, 400 N. Whitley Street, Columbia City. Have questions? Call the Foundation at 244-5224; or register by calling the American Cancer Society at 260-471-3911. Registration deadline is Tuesday, Jan. 31.
Two local volunteer cosmetologists have volunteered to participate in the Whitley County program. Both have been trained and certified by ACS, NCA and the CTFA Foundation at a regional workshop.

COLUMBIA CITY – Here’s a trivia question for you: On what day of the year is the most pizza eaten by Americans?
The answer: Super Bowl Sunday.
Faith Christian Academy in Columbia City is again making and selling fresh pizzas as a fund raiser. Price is $10 and the public can purchase and take home a 16-inch fresh pizza. Choice of double cheese, pepperoni, or three meats all on a regular crust.
Order deadline is noon, Feb. 1. To place an order, call the school at 248-4872 and receive information on how to pick up ordered pizza on Saturday, Feb. 4 between 10:30 and 2:30.

New GED session
orientation
coming Jan. 28
COLUMBIA CITY – The Four County Vocational Adult Education program offers GED Preparation classes in Columbia City at the Huntington Excel Building, 220 Frontage Rd.
Classes are on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8 a.m.-noon and are taught by a certified teacher who will work with individual students based on their academic needs.
Classes meet 12 hours per week. Students must attend a program orientation prior to attending classes.
The next Orientation is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 28 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Super Bowl Sunday
INDIANAPOLIS – The 2012 Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee has announced dates and times for the musical performances in the Super Bowl Village.
Two stages – the Pepsi Stage at Meridian and Georgia Streets and the Verizon Stage at Pen-nsylvania and Georgia Streets – will host bands daily through Super Bowl Sunday for the public to enjoy for free.

Festival of Ice to be hosted
at Timbercrest on Feb. 11
NORTH MANCHESTER – Timbercrest Senior Living will host the Festival of Ice, an ice carving event, on Saturday, Feb. 11 from 9 a.m. until noon. The event will be held on the Timbercrest front lawn.
Two ice carvers will be onsite to turn ordinary blocks of ice into works of art.
One of the carvers, Stan Horne, has competed in international ice carving competitions, including the BP World Ice Art Championships in Fair Banks, Alaska.
He also started the Fire and Ice Festival, which draws thousands to Columbia City each year. Columbia City’s event is Jan. 21-22
The two carvers at Timbercrest will complete a total of six sculptures over a three-hour period, so there will be lots of activity throughout the entire morning. Attendees can bundle up to watch the festivities outside or there will be seating inside for those who would rather not be out in the cold.
Many organizations are participating in the North Manchester event.

Fort’s Home/Garden Show
is March 1-4
FORT WAYNE – The 39th annual Fort Wayne Home and Garden Show, the largest consumer event in Indiana’s Tri-State area, is the perfect place to find the latest home and garden ideas and products to make your home springtime ready.
This year’s show takes place Thursday, March 1 through Sunday, March 4 at the Allen County Memorial Coliseum, 4000 Parnell Avenue. Show hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
For nearly 40 years, over 41,000 visitors – including gardeners, decorators and do-it- yourselfers – have discovered unique ways to reinvent their humble abode through hundreds of experts all under one roof.

Whitley snowbirds
will roost awhile
in Sebring March 6
SEBRING, Fla. – The Columbia City High School Alumni Association will host its annual Snowbird Luncheon for all citizens of Whitley County on Tuesday, March 6.
The Florida luncheon and get-together will start at 11:30 a.m. at Homer’s Original Smorgasbord, 1000 Sebring Square, located on the southeast corner of U.S. 27 and Sebring Parkway.
This is billed as “a casual get-together for you to enjoy with family, friends, classmates and alumni of Whitley County, Indiana.”
There is no reservation required for this event. Luncheon amount is $10.97 per person, plus tax, at the door.

COLUMBIA CITY – Kindergarten Round-up dates have been established in March for Whitley County Consolidated Schools..
Parents are instructed by school officials to call each elementary school office to set up an appointment time for the appropriate date.
