MARK YOUR CALENDAR: Unique events slated in upcoming days

Drive one 4 UR School at Whitko Saturday
City Ford will conduct a Drive one 4 UR School event at Whitko High School, South Whitley, Saturday, April 28 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
An array of new Ford vehicles will be at the Whitko parking lot, ready for test drives.
For each test drive, City Ford will donate $20 to Whitko to be directed to the school’s National Honor Society and Student Roundtable.
City Ford and school officials encourage Whitko patrons to participate in this unique fund-raising opportunity.

Beef & noodle dinner slated Saturday
The women of Grace Lutheran Church will host a Beef and Noodle dinner April 28 from 4 to 7 p.m.
Beef and noodles will be served, as well as mashed potatoes, green beans, applesauce, rolls, desserts and beverages.
Carry-outs will be available. Everyone is invited. Profits will benefit local and worldwide outreach ministries.
Previous recipients were: Grace Food Pantry, the Lighthouse, BABE and Kathleen Lutz — a missionary in Kenya and Lutheran World Relief.

Spaghetti dinner fundraiser
coming Saturday
An all-you-can-eat Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser will be held at the Columbia City High School Cafeteria to benefit the CCHS Band program.
The fundraiser will take place April 28 from to 7 p.m.
Pre-sale tickets are $5 for seniors, age 65 plus, $7 for adults 13-64, $4 for children five to 12 and children four and under eat free.
Tickets at the door are $6 for seniors 65 plus, $8 for adults 13 to 64 and $5 for children five to 12.
Pre-sale tickets will be available for purchase through band members or by calling Elizabeth Bailey at 609-7519.

Cub Scout
birthday party Monday
There will be a Cub Scout Pack 3082 60th birthday party April 30 at 6 p.m. The event will be held at the FOP, next to Kids Dreamland. All former Pack 3082 alumni of all ages are invited to join the party. Those attending the party, can share stories, memories and photos.

Car show and benefit May 5
There will be a car show and benefit May 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hearth at Sycamore Village, located on Ind. 14 and Allen/Whitley County Line Road.
Food and bake sale items will be a free will donation.
Silent auction items are toys, tools, sports wear, beauty supplies, golf, motel stays, golf umbrellas, gift baskets and more.

Bicycle Repair Day May 6
A Bicycle Repair Day will be held May 5 from 8 a.m. to around noon.
The event is sponsored by the Whitley County 4-H Bicycle Club.
Labor is free.

Cubs bus trip set for May 6
There will be a Cubs bus trip to Chicago Wrigley Field May 6.
Those planning to attend the Cubs bus trip will depart from Big Lake Church of God at 9 a.m. and return at 9 p.m.
All proceeds will go to the Big Lake/Tri-Lakes fireworks fund.

Social Security for Couples
May 10
Michael Hull of Hull Financial Group, will present “Social Security for Couples” May 10, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Whitley County Extension Office, located at 115 S. Line St. in Columbia City. It will also be held May 10, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Whitley County 4-H Center at the Whitley County fairgrounds. The Cost is $20 per couple.
Mr. Hull is an expert on advising couples and is coming to Whitley County for two workshops.
Mr. Hull will also take a few appointments for couples counseling. Appointments are one and a half hours in length and cost is $395.
Those who wish to participate must bring Social Security numbers and a copy of your 2011 tax return.
Appointments are available on a first come, first served basis.
All appointments will be at the Whitley County Extension Office and are available May 10 and May 11.
Reservations and payment for the workshop are due by May 7.

Dining with Diabetes begins May 30
“Dining with Diabetes” is a program for people with diabetes and their families.
This four-week cooking school will be held on Wednesday evenings, May 30, June 13, June 20 and June 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Whitley County Extension Office, located at 115 S. Line St. in Columbia City.
This curriculum reflects current advances in diabetes nutritional education and also takes into consideration today’s busy lifestyle.
Recipes utilized throughout the curriculum have fewer and less expensive ingredients and are prepared with less fat and sodium content.
Utilization of the artificial sweeteners in combination with limited amounts of sugar is emphasized to reduce overall carbohydrates and calories.
Emphasis is placed on the addition and importance of fiber and calcium in the meal plan.
The class schedule is: May 30: “Special Occasions and Desserts – Looking at Sweeteners and Carbohydrates”; June 13: “What is Diabetes?”; June 20: “Main Dishes – Looking at Fats and Sodium”; and June 27: “Side Dishes – Looking at Fiber.”
Cost is $25 per person for all four sessions and $15 for the second person in a family.
Registrations are due May 23.
