Mobile mammographyFrancine’s Friends Mobile Mammography coach makes getting a screening mammogram quick, easy and convenient. Many insurance plans are accepted and funding is available to cover expenses for women who do not have sufficient financial resources. The mobile mammography program is a partnership of the Parkview Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Breast Diagnostic Center and Francine’s Friends. Tickets can be purchased at the event for kids’ games with prizes, activities, face painting, bounce house and dunk tank. There will be live kids’ music entertainment. All funds raised will go to help fund the second side of the park, Adventure Mania. For every $1 raised, Dekko will match it with $2 up to $5,000. Library book saleFriends of the Peabody Public Library are having a book sale Thursday, June 28 to Saturday, June 30. The sale will be held in the downstairs portion of the library. An assortment of books will be available from mysteries, historical stories as well as cookbooks. Other items for sale will include videos, CD’s and children’s books. The sale will help support the library. The sale will be open to members only on June 28 from 4 to 6 p.m. and then open to the public from 6 to 8. The Whitley County Domestic Violence Task Force (WCDVTF) has plans to make a difference in the lives of young adults in Whitley County. Planning sessions are underway for GEMS (Girls Embracing Maximum Safety) and “MAN UP!”. According to Sherry Sausaman, WCDVTF president, last year about 75 young women attend GEMS and this year the group is including an opportunity for young men called “MAN UP!.” GEMS will focus on personal safety along with a hands-on self defense class hosted by Dean Houser and the local police force. “MAN UP!” attendees will be challenged by a motivational speaker focusing on character building and breaking down masculine stereotypes. Also, there will be pizza and door prizes that will round out the event.
