Marquis Jr. Reid, of Columbia City, died at 2:56 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2012, at Parkview Oaks where he had been a resident since April.
He was born Nov. 29, 1924, in Richland Township, a son of Mark H. and Lena M. (Hoffert) Reid.
He attended Larwill High School.
He entered into the U.S. Army on Aug. 8, 1944, serving in the European Theater.
He was honorably discharge on Sept. 30, 1945. He returned to the area.
On Dec. 29, 1944, he married Ruth C. Fosnaugh. They made their home in Richland Township.
A farmer, he also worked at American Tractor / JI Case, Churubusco for 12 years. He then took a job with International Harvester, Fort Wayne where he worked for 21 and a half years, retiring in July 1983.
His memberships included Indiana Farm Bureau and American Legion Post 98.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Ruth; two daughters, Karen S. Gamble of Palestine Lake and Vickie A. (John) Linton of Pierceton; one son, Ricky A. (Deborah) Reid, Columbia City; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and a stepsister, Alice Brumfield of Beaver Dam Lake.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Amelia Mather.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
The visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
The burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Larwill with military honors presented by the Whitley County Korean War Veterans Honor Guard.
