Max S. Myers, 72, a resident of Churubusco and prominent Churubusco businessman, passed away at 4:55 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Myers was born March 14, 1941, in Wolf Lake, a son of J. Stanley and Lucille (Jones) Myers, and spent his formative years in Churubusco. He graduated from Churubusco High School in 1959 and earned his bachelorâs degree from the Indiana University School of Business in 1964.
On March 24, 1962, he was married in Churubusco to Juliann âJudyâ Witham of Huntertown.
Upon completing his education, he returned to Churubusco and with his parents, founded the Magic Wand Restaurant.
Along with his wife, he continued to own and operate the restaurant all of his adult life.
As a young man he also worked for General Electric in Fort Wayne for five years, and was engaged in real estate, co-owning Witham Real Estate in Churubusco for more than 20 years along with his father-in-law Paul âPeteâ Witham. In addition, he built and was the co-owner of the âBusco One Stop Convenience Store.
In addition to his business and professional concerns, he enjoyed Indiana University sports, was an avid golfer and fisherman, and enjoyed a good cigar.
He was previously a member of the former Churubusco Jaycees, had been active on the board for Churubusco Turtle Days, and was a member of the Churubusco Lions Club and the Whitley County Board of Realtors.
The surviving relatives include his wife, Juliann âJudyâ Myers, to whom he was married for more than 51 years; his two daughters, Kim (Lee) Hill of Churubusco and Kelly (John) Galbreth of Vandalia, Mich.; five beloved grandchildren, David (Cassandra) Hill, Jared Hill, Evan Hill, Elizabeth Hummel, and Corey Hummel; and a precious great-granddaughter, Eliza Jane Hill.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Pastors Corinne Boruff-Stucker and Larry Smith, officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m., or one hour prior to the service Thursday morning.
Interment will be in the Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco.
