COLUMBIA CITY â Though he wonât be taking office until 2012, mayor-elect Ryan Daniel has been and will continue to be a busy man heading into office.
Daniel will be participating in workshops for newly elected officials, set up by the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns.
The workshops are available to prepare both new and incumbent mayors for their upcoming four-year term, according to Daniel.
The workshops cover everything from municipal law, leadership qualities and as Daniel put it, âreally just everything under the sun that will help a new mayor.â
Daniel spoke about his three biggest priorities for the first year of his term as well as the long run, in no particular order: jobs, utilities, and government transparency.
âI am tired of communities in general â not just Columbia City â hiring a consultant to do a study on their city and then the study sits on the shelf,â said Daniel. âI want a step-by-step plan on moving forward.â
Though Daniel sees room for improvement for the city, he does not believe it has been in bad hands.
Overall, Daniel is focused on an effective plan to help the city not only continue in areas that thrive but to grow in areas in which it doesnât.
âIâd like to put Columbia City on the map. I donât want to just be a pass through U.S. 30 or âthat little community in the middle of Whitley Countyâ. I see so many opportunities here for us to make a name for ourselves.
âLetâs put Columbia City on the map.â
