COLUMBIA CITY â€” Columbia Cityâ€™s Street Department has been working nearly non-stop since the beginning of the year clearing snow and ice from roadways.
Recently, officials discussed concerns with overtime expenses, as crews have had to balance creating safer roadways within the cityâ€™s budget.
There was a small light at the end of winterâ€™s tunnel last week, with temperatures warming to above freezing for the first time in 2014, and snow and ice finally melting from streets.
What was left behind was almost as dangerous as the snow and ice themselves.
Potholes â€” parking lots, highways, streets and alleys are speckled with craters, some larger than others.
