Melvin G. Huber, 87, died at 6:40 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, at Goshen General Hospital.
He was born March 9, 1923 to G. Fred and Sarah (Shidler) Huber in Goshen. On Nov. 21, 1942 he married Joann A. Detwiler at the First Brethren Church Parsonage, Goshen.
Mrs. Huber survives with their children, Rick (Jan) Huber and Steve (Sandy) Huber, both of Goshen, Sandy (Michael) Vance of New Paris and Barb (Bob) Hoke of Columbia City; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, Stanley (Mary) Huber of Goshen; sisters-in-law, Jean Huber of Kendallville and Erdene Mishler and Myrtle Huber, both of Goshen.
Mr. Huber was preceded by brothers, Calvin, Orris and Arthur Huber; sisters, Evelyn Webb and Lorraine Phebus.
He was a member of Jefferson Brethren Church and had attended Goshen High School. On April 17, 1943 he joined the U.S. Army and worked as an airplane mechanic. He was discharged as a corporal Feb. 10, 1946.
He was a truck driver for the former Star Tank and Boat, now Universal, retiring in 1986 after 30 years. He started his career driving a horse and buggy milk truck for City Dairy. He also worked for Culp Funeral Home in the â€™50s.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home in Goshen with Rev. Ron Spyker of Jefferson Brethren Church officiating. Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service Friday. Cremation will follow the service.
