Melvin Schuman, 99

Melvin F. Schuman, 99, of South Milford, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at his home. Mr. Schuman was born in Larwill Sept. 30, 1914, to Henry and Flossie (Harris) Schuman.
In 1944, he moved to LaGrange County from Columbia City, and Noble County.
Mr. Schuman retired from Monsanto in Ligonier, and had been a farmer and an avid gardener and crafter. He was a former member of LaGrange County Farm Bureau.
On March 15, 1934, in Plymouth, he married Lucy I. Spear. Mrs. Schuman preceded him in death on July 18, 2005.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Lois Daugherty of Huntington and Janice Schuman of South Milford; a son, Kay Leon Schuman of Fort Wayne; three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Hal Schuman of Avilla.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Errol Schuman.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Lakeview Cemetery in Kendallville. The Rev. Ken Weaver will officiate the service.
Memorials may be given to either the Parkview Home Health and Hospice or South Milford United Methodist Church.
