Melvin C. Van Meter, Sr., 76, of Andrews, passed away at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at his residence.
Melvin attended Andrews High School. He attended Fullerton State University in California. He was a member of the South Broadway Church of Christ.
He was born April 15, 1937, in Huntington, a son of Fred M. and Helen (Schattu) Van Meter.
He was united in marriage to Pat (Lusch) Van Meter Rowen, she preceded him in death in 2003. He later married Penelope (Whitesel) Eley on July 31, 2004, in Huntington. His wife survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Melvin C. (Viola)Van Meter, Jr. of Columbia City; a daughter, Rebecca J. (Mark) Campbell of Warren; two brothers, Robert (Pat) Van Meter of Silver Lake; Richard Van Meter, Sr. of Huntington; two sisters, Betty Wolfe of Fort Wayne, Sandy (Rex) Baxter of Huntington; five grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ervin, Eddie and Freddie Van Meter and four sisters, Maxine Smith, Pauline Thompson, Dorothy Wooster and Goldie Cargar.There will be no visitation or funeral service.
Graveside services will take place at a later date at the Star of Hope Cemetery.
