METH: Two men arrested on meth charges

August 1, 2012

COLUMBIA CITY — Two men were arrested on methamphetamine charges Tuesday afternoon after a routine traffic stop.

According to Detective Gary Archbold, officer Jeff Chapman conducted a routine traffic stop at approximately 3 p.m., which resulted in the arrest of Jonathan Wells, 39, of Fort Wayne, and Aaron Shepherd, 19, of Columbia City.

“When Officer Chapman pulled over the vehicle, he saw a meth precursor in plain sight,” Archbold said. “He got permission to search the vehicle and found more precursors.”

Though the vehicle was pulled over on Diplomat Drive, just yards away from the bomb scare at Ace Hardware, Columbia City Police Captain Tony Hively said the cases are unrelated.

Four people were detained for investigation. Wells and Shepherd were booked in the Whitley County jail, charged with possession of chemicals with intent to manufacture.

Both are being held on an $8,000 bond and are scheduled for court on Aug. 6.
