Michael Allen Wright, 68, of Columbia City, passed away at 7:05 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne.
Born on June 12, 1945, in Worthington, Minn., he was the son of Gordon G. and Elizabeth L. (Ramert) Wright.
He was born and raised in Minnesota. Mike graduated from Fulda High School in Fulda, Minn. with the Class of 1963.
He entered the U.S. Marines and served from 1963 to 1967 during the Vietnam War.
Mike moved to Columbia City in 1971 and worked at the Indiana Air National Guard from 1972 until retiring as a Senior Master Sgt. in 2001.
On Oct. 12, 2005, he married Joanna Parent-Ewing. He was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars all in Columbia City.
He is survived by his wife, Joanna Wright; daughters, Lori (Terry) Bacon of Columbia City and Shelley (Eric) Lehman of Mattawan, Mich.; son, Robert (Kaci) Wright of Franklin; stepdaughter, Jacqueline (Brian) Lloyd of Fort Wayne; stepsons, Brian (Deb) Ewing and Kevin Ewing both of Columbia City; brothers, Dean Wright of Grove City, Ohio, Mark (Linda) Wright of Kingsville, Texas, Bruce (Meredith) Wright of Kearney, Neb., James (Felicia) Wright of La Luz, N.M. and Robert (Kelli Jo) Wright of Mankato, Minn.; sisters, Wendy (Darby)Sanders of Boone, Iowa and Susan (Tom) Steffl of Worthington, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with a 3:30 p.m. Rosary and 7:30 p.m. Vigil at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, 315 S. Line St., with Fr. Gary Sigler officiating.
