Miriam J. Copp, 84, of rural Columbia City, died at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.She was born April 29, 1926 in Wallins Creek, Ky., a daughter of Gail Whitcomb and Mildred (Caress) Ellers. Her formative years were spent in Central Kentucky. She graduated salutatorian of Harrodsburg High School and continued her education at Blue Mountain College, Georgetown College and the Indiana School of Music at I.P.F.W.On April 19, 1947 she was united in marriage to Harold D. Copp. They made their home in Bunker Hill where they established Copp Farm Supply. In 1957 they moved to a farm off Dowell Road, south of Columbia City, transferring the family business. Mr. Copp died June 2, 1999.She was a member of Columbia City United Methodist Church where she served as church organist for many years, Parliamentary Law & Literary Club and Sigma Eta Fine Arts Sorority.Surviving relatives include four children, Jeffrey (Connie) Copp of Columbia City, Michael (Cheryl) Copp of Columbia City, Linda (Dr. Marc) Weinbaum of Ocala, Fla. and Elizabeth (Russell) Beiersdorfer of Sunman; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Arens of Harrodsburg Ky.; and a brother, Jon Ellers of Kokomo.In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Copp; a granddaughter; and four brothers, James Ellers, George Ellers, William Ellers and Frank Ellers.The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010 at Columbia City United Methodist Church, 605 Forest Parkway, with visitation after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. The burial will be in South Park Annex Cemetery.
