FORT WAYNE — Churubusco’s Katie Monk is joining three Columbia City athletes at the Indiana State Track Meet in June.

Monk tossed the discus 128 feet, 6 inches at Northrop’s regional meet Tuesday, qualifying for another trip to the state finals. Monk medaled last year, placing sixth with a throw of 129 feet.

In nearly a repeat of last year’s state finalists from Whitley County, Monk is to join Samantha Roush and Carlee Hearld — again — at Bloomington.

Kalisha Goree, of Columbia City, also qualified for state in the long jump, leaping 17 feet, 11 inches — seven inches past the state standard.

Goree also took sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.52.

Monk also competed in the shot put. She placed 12th with a toss of 33 feet, 3.5 inches.
