ON THE MOVE: Veterans Service Office to relocate in county building

March 5, 2014

Cathy Kelsey, the secretary and administrative assistant for the Veterans Service Office, is one of three people who work in a cramped office inside the Whitley County Government Center. County leaders approved moving the VSO to a conference room that will be converted for a larger office space.

COLUMBIA CITY — Whitley County’s Veteran Services Office (VSO) is moving.
Currently tucked in the back of the Whitley County Assessor’s Office, the Veterans Service Office is located on the second floor of the county’s Government Center.

The corner office has an almost panoramic view of Van Buren Street, with its turret-style window feature.

“I always thought that it was the premier office in this building,” said Whitley County Commissioner Don Amber. “It has gorgeous windows and a great view. But I didn’t realize how small it is. I practically had to back out of there. You can hardly turn around.”

Three people work out of the current office, which is best suited for one. Gene Rohrer, the county’s officer, is assisted by two other employees.
