COLUMBIA CITY — According to Street Superintendent Kelly Cearbaugh, the leaf mulch giveaway scheduled for this Saturday will not take place.
“It’s something we’ve advertised for a while now, but (the mulch) is all gone already,” Cearbaugh said.
The mulch has been available to the public for a few weeks. Department personnel is on hand once a year to load the mulch for residents who bring a way to haul it away.
Normally, one day is selected toward the end of spring for all of the leftover mulch to be given away before the city hauls it; however, this year residents have already depleted the resource.
“We didn’t really anticipate it being gone, but I guess with the warm weather people have already taken advantage of it,” said Cearbaugh.
