COLUMBIA CITY — Plans are taking shape for the National Day of Prayer, which will be observed May 2.

The Planning Committee for the National Day of Prayer in Whitley County met Saturday in the Prayer Room at The Center for Whitley County Youth. A 5K Walk/Run for Jesus, scheduled for April 27, will jump-start the month’s focus on prayer.

Participation from the community is encouraged for many areas such as decorating the Courthouse gazebo and baking cookies for police officers and firemen.

County residents are welcome to gather May 2 at Community of Hope Church, Columbia City, to start the day off with a prayer breakfast. Prayer will be focused on area pastors and government officials.

There will be music and speakers throughout the day and a time of prayer around the Courthouse at 6:30 p.m.

Prayer walks are being set up throughout Columbia City, and there is talk of a motorcycle ride through Whitley County for another time of prayer.

The next meeting will be held April 13 at 8:30 a.m. at The Center’s Prayer Room.

Those desiring to help with the event are welcome to attend.
