NECC track begins

CHURUBUSCO — Churubusco High School is playing host to the Northeast Corner Conference’s track meet this week.

Preliminaries began Tuesday night, and the meet will conclude Friday.

Churubusco’s boys currently sit third in the team rankings, and the girls are in fifth place.

Katie Monk was named conference champion in the girls discus.

In the girls prelims, Alyssa Anderson took eighth in the 100-meter dash to advance. Danielle Pippenger is moving on in the 100-meter hurdles and finished fourth in the long jump.

Churubusco’s 3,200-meter relay team of Page Long, Nicole Lampe, Brittany McKinney and Julia Folland placed seventh Tuesday.

Molly Blake is moving on in the pole vault after clearing 9 feet.

For the boys, Austin McClure won the shot put with a heave of 56 feet, 2.5 inches. Teammate Gunner Barnhart placed eighth in the finals.

Zach Shepard and Sheldon Shearer are advancing in the 110-meter hurdles, and Landon Harris moves on to Friday’s finals in the 200-meter dash.

’Busco’s 3,200-meter relay team of Davon Geiger, Joe Zunbrun, Aaron Zolman and Conner Hogeston placed second.
