COLUMBIA CITY — Whitley County’s Republican Party announced Monday it would hold a caucus July 10 to fill the vacancy in the Whitley County Assessor elected position.
County Assessor Angie Heath announced her resignation earlier this year, which goes into effect Saturday.
According to a county GOP press release, “the political party occupying that office has 30 days from the date of the resignation to hold a caucus and elect a new elected official, in this case county assessor.”
To fill this vacancy the Whitley County Republican Central Committee is holding a caucus of the Whitley County Republican precinct committeemen on July 10 at 7 p.m. at the Peabody Public Library’s auditorium.
The Peabody Public Library is located at 1160 E. State Road 205 Columbia City, IN 46725.
“Someone desiring to run for Whitley County assessor, and who meets the qualifications, needs to file a declaration of candidacy form, CEB-5, with the county chairman at least 72 hours before the scheduled time of the caucus,” said the party’s press release.
“To qualify, a candidate must be a resident of Whitley County, a registered Republican voter and meet the other statutory requirements set by the state to be a county assessor.
