NEW ASSESSOR: Rita Sauders elected by caucus

July 12, 2012

COLUMBIA CITY — The Whitley County Republican Party has selected a replacement for the county’s assessor who announced her resignation earlier this year.
“It was uncontested, so Rita Sauders will be the new Whitley County Assessor,” said Matthew Boyd, chairman of the county’s Republican party.
Sauders was selected in a caucus Tuesday to replace Angie Heath, who announced she would resign effective July 7.
“It was a good turnout. There were 26 of us who showed up for an uncontested race so I was pleased,” said Boyd.
Boyd said this morning he would be filing the paperwork with the county later today to make the election official.
Sauders was serving as deputy assessor in that office before her election to the post.
Heath announced her plans to resign in April after originally scheduling a paid hiatus from May to October to help her husband, a Larwill resident, run a resort he owns in Canada.
Heath had worked in the assessor’s office for 13 years and was in the second year of her third term.
