CHURUBUSCO— Homecoming may be set for later this year, but for new Churubusco Junior-Senior High School Assistant Principal Dan Hile, he experienced a partial taste recently.
It was the first week of school, and Hile’s first as the new assistant principal. But it was hardly Hile’s first time in the building.
He had been choir director at the high school from 2003 to 2011. Returning to Smith-Green Community Schools after two years of administrative work at Northridge High School was like coming home.
“I’m glad to be back home and back in the community I live in,” Hile said. “Both of my own children go to the elementary school. It’s great to make a difference in the town I live in.”
Returning to the building meant Hile was reunited with many familiar faces.
“It’s been really good,” he said. “It’s nice to know most of the students and staff, but it will definitely be a transition for them and myself, especially for those students that had me as a teacher. It will be a shift for them to think of me in a different role.”
Hile is the latest administrator hired for the SGCS district. Superintendent Galen Mast referred to the hire as, “hopefully the last one we have to make for awhile.”
Coming into a team with many new faces could pose a daunting challenge, but Hile sees unification among the team members.
