SOUTH WHITLEY â€” Plans are being made for South Whitley's first Home for the Holidays event, which is slated for Dec. 8 from 3-6 p.m.
â€śThis promises to be a fun-filled afternoon sponsored by Whitley on the Move,â€ť said event organizers. â€śThere will be several family-friendly activities in the offering by a variety of South Whitley organizations and businesses.â€ť
A Christmas tree stands waiting in the bandstand gazebo outside of Town Hall for decorations which will be made in the Town Hall during the event.
The decoration-making is free and is sponsored by the kindergarten classes of South Whitley Elementary School, Delta Theta Tau, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Hot chocolate and candy canes will be served at Town Hall by Delta Theta Tau Sorority.
At Eberly's Photography and Videography, pictures with Santa are offered and the Lions Club will be handing out sacks of treats.
Santa pictures are $7, $5 of which will go to Whitley on the Move to match future grant funds for downtown revitalization projects.
The Brownstone on State will offer free cookie decorating for children ages 12 and younger. Specialty hot beverages and other desserts will be for sale to those over the age of 12.
A live nativity will be presented at Crossroads Bank, a cooperative effort by Solid Rock Grace Brethren Church, Collamer Christian Church, First Baptist Church and Bethel Baptist Church.
Moyers Corner Cafe will be open during the festivities with a special menu.
Local firemen will be on hand to transport Santa to the bandstand gazebo just before 6 p.m., where lights will be lit.
A traveling trophy will be awarded to the downtown business with the winning wreath display from the Deck The Stores contest.
Live music at several locations will round out the holiday spirit.
