COLUMBIA CITY â€” Whitley Countyâ€™s Sheriffâ€™s Department hired a new deputy and several confinement officers, who were all sworn in at the Whitley County Courthouse Friday afternoon.
Deputy Dustin Auer was hired as a deputy after working for five years as a confinement officer.
Auer said it has been one of his career goals to become a deputy. He spent two years as a reserve in South Whitley.
Auer also has military experience, working in the armory for the military police maintaining weapons. He also served a tour in Iraq.
Auerâ€™s wife, Erin, also works at the Sheriffâ€™s Department as a dispatcher.
Erin, along with their two sons Liam and Ian, stood with Auer while he was sworn in.
Four confinement officers were hired to work at the jail and were also sworn in Friday afternoon by Circuit Court Judge James Heuer.
Heather Riecke, Lauren Schmidt, Joseph Morua and Samuel Gillespie will begin work at the jail under Jail Commander Shawn Martin.
