NEW SQUAD CARS: WCSD to buy new vehicles

February 11, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY — Whitley County’s Sheriff’s Department will be acquiring two new vehicles for 2013.

In a normal year, the department will purchase three new vehicles. Dodge Chargers will be the vehicle of choice, and they will be purchased for $23,307.25 each, according to Chief Deputy Marcus Gatton.

O’Daniel Chrysler in Fort Wayne will be the dealer for the vehicles, which are expected to arrive before summer. The Chargers came in cheaper than rival vehicles from Ford and Chevy, according to Gatton.

“They beat the Fort Interceptor by more than $1,600 and the Chevy Caprice by more than $4,500,” Gatton said.

The Michigan State Police have a website Gatton said he used for his research on new vehicle purchases.
