NEWS ALERT: ‘New Medicare card’ latest scam to hit Whitley County

January 4, 2012

COLUMBIA CITY – At least two attempted telephone scam reports were made to local law enforcement officials Wednesday concerning a phone solicitor seeking personal information to issue “a new Medicare card.”
According to information supplied to The Post & Mail, the male phone caller informed his target that “he was going to send out a new Medicare card” and needed to confirm personal information. Included was a solicitation of personal banking information.
In both cases the local recipients of the phone calls appropriately ended the conversations abruptly and contacted their banks and local law enforcement.
Persons should never reveal personal financial information to unsolicited, unknown callers, stress area law enforcement officials.
