OSSIAN â€” Despite a four-touchdown rally in the fourth quarter against Norwell Friday night, Columbia Cityâ€™s football season came to a close in Ossian.
The Eagles faced a 28-0 deficit with less than eight minutes left in the game, but took the momentum to score four touchdowns against their Northeast Hoosier Conference foes.
Despite their efforts, the Eagles fell 45-28 in the sectional opener to a team that beat them just a week before.
In regular-season action in Columbia City last week, the Eagles fell 35-21 to the Knights. This week, Norwell played host to Columbia City, and opened the game with a shutout for 40 minutes of play.
After the score was knotted at 0-0 by the end of the first quarter, Norwell scored three touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 21-0 advantage going into the locker room at halftime.
Norwell scored again with seven minutes left in the third quarter to take a lopsided 28-0 lead.
Columbia City didnâ€™t get on the scoreboard until 7:47 left in the game, and completed the two-point conversion to make the score 31-8.
Columbia City turned around to score again with 7:21 to go in the game, but Norwell answered with a touchdown of its own to make the score 38-15.
The Eagles found the end zone again with 4:26 and 3:21 to go, tightening Norwellâ€™s lead to 10, but the Knights sealed the deal with another touchdown with 3:03 left in the game.
