Ober visits SGCS, talks education

November 22, 2013

CHURUBUSCO — Smith-Green Community Schools welcomed Rep. Dave Ober to tour the new construction that has been done for the district’s schools.

Ober, while visiting with Superintendent Galen Mast and Churubusco Junior/Senior High School Principal Jim Folland, said education issues are still of concern for the Statehouse.

SGCS recently received a grant for a school resource officer (SRO). Ober said SROs are useful for a variety of reasons.

“Young people learn that police are not to be feared, they ‘re here to help,” he said. “We’re ahead of the curve (in Indiana) and we want to stay that way.”

Mast echoed those comments, having just returned from a seminar on school safety.
