Officials warn residents of private insurance company letter

April 4, 2014

COLUMBIA CITY — A private insurance company has raised question among Columbia City residents after circulating a letter to several citizens.

In the fine print, the letter states that the company, HomeServe USA Repair Management Corp. “is an independent company separate from your local utility,” and it attempts to sell local residents insurance on their water service lines.

“We do not endorse private companies that provide this service,” Columbia City Mayor Ryan Daniel said.

The letter states that the resident’s property has “appeared in a review of our records for Columbia City, and we have found that your exterior water line is not covered with Water Service Line Coverage.”
