A conspicuous cloud hangs over downtown Columbia City Wednesday evening as storms rolled in.

Pictured is the sky lit up with lightning as darkness blows over the city.

The shelf cloud went on to cause hail and strong winds in Churubusco, and even prompted tornado warnings as it passed through northeast Indiana.

Though the dark cloud coming down from the shelf cloud did not have rotation in Columbia City, it is called a wall cloud, and had the potential for tornadoes.

Many county and city roads are closed or restricted today due to flooding, as parts of the area received 1.5 to 4 inches of rain.

See page A2 of the June 13 issue of The Post and Mail for more photos of the storm.
