KOSCIUSKO COUNTY — Law enforcement officials are continuing to investigate a shooting that occurred near Barbee Lake, in Kosciusko County at approximately 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night.
One man was pronounced dead at the scene and another man was also shot, but suffered non-life threatening injuries after what police believe was a domestic dispute.
Barbee Lake is located less than 20 miles from Columbia City, south of North Webster.
The shooting occurred at EMS B-10 Lane north of Pierceton off Ind. 13.
A woman was taken into custody by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, according to Kosciusko County Sherffi’s Sergeant Chad Hill.
The man was transported to Kosciusko County Community Hospital in Warsaw after he was shot.
A medical helicopter was dispatched to the area, but was disregarded shortly after.
Officials say the man who was killed died from multiple gunshot wounds.
“Detectives believe that a domestic dispute escalated to a level where a female acquaintance discharged a firearm at the home,” Hill said in a press release. “She surrendered to arriving deputies and was taken into custody without incident.”
Kosciusko County Coroner Michael Wilson, along with Kosciusko County’s Major Crime Scene Investigation Unit, were on the scene Wednesday night, and are continuing to investigate the case.
Late Wednesday night, crime scene technicians were collecting and processing evidence at the home.
The relationship between the woman and the victim is not known, but multiple sources told an area news source that the victim was a business owner and father of two young daughters.
Police did not confirm if any children were inside the home at the time of the shooting.
The names of the victims and suspect have not yet been released, but Hill said further information may become available today.
According to police, as of press time the female suspect had not been officially charged with any crimes.
