Opal Longenecker, 86, of Columbia City, died at 10:20 p.m. Monday, April 25, 2011 at Covington Manor Health & Rehab, Fort Wayne where she had been a resident since August 2010.
She was born Aug. 6, 1924 in Eel River Township, Allen County a daughter of Clyde Franklin and Elta Edna (Disler) Longenecker. She attended the Madden School for six years, Eel River Perry School and graduated from Huntertown High School.
She made her home in Churubusco until 1972 when she moved to Columbia City. In 1997 she became a resident at Renaissance Village.
She worked at G.C. Murphy’s in downtown Fort Wayne for 19 years and General Electric for five years. Her memberships included First Church of God.
Surviving relatives include a brother-in-law, Arthur Lamle of Fort Wayne; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Herman Longenecker and three sisters, Minnie Longenecker, Alice Lamle and Grace Lemon.
The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Eel River Cemetery near Churubusco. There will be no public visitation.
