'OSCAR' WONT' BE DENIED: Turtle Days receives OK on date change — June 11-14

February 7, 2014

CHURUBUSCO — An annual summer festival in Churubusco has an earlier spot on the calendar.

Turtle Days Board President Nicole Kirkpatrick announced Thursday that the four-day celebration of Oscar, the legendary tortoise from ‘Busco, will be June 11-14.

“This year we were completely unable to find a company that was available for our original dates during the third week of June,” Kirkpatrick said. “I contacted Gary Bolander, the owner of Poor Jack amusements. He too was unavailable for that third week, but did have an opening for the second week.”

When Churubusco Town Council members heard of the date change, they were caught off guard since no one from the Turtle Days Board had contacted the town prior to making the date change.

“One major misstep in our decision to go ahead with the date change was that we did not take it before the town council,” Kirkpatrick said. “The council was upset that we unilaterally made this decision and requested a meeting to discuss the changes.”
