PARK, CEMETERY CRACKDOWN: City establishes fines for violations of cemetery, park hours

April 26, 2012

COLUMBIA CITY — Two ordinances were approved on second reading concerning city cemetery and park hours at Tuesday’s Common Council City meeting.
Mayor Ryan Daniel said the reason the city established the ordinances was to give the police department the ability to remove people from any cemetery or park maintained by the city after hours.
“Frankly, we’ve been having trouble with a segment of our youth population in the cemetery being in there after hours, “ said Daniel.
The hours established for individuals to be in the cemeteries are from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.
At the Common Council’s meeting April 10, they established a $25 fine for those in violation of this ordinance.
“As for the park hours, Daniel said they already had an ordinance in place, but they were not able to give the police officers the ability to be able to fine people.
