COLUMBIA CITY â According to Whitley County Consolidated Schools Superintendent Dr. Pat OâConnor, third-grade IREAD test results are in.
Preliminary data indicates that 92 percent of third-grade students in the district passed the test.
âWe are very, very pleased with these results,â OâConnor said.
OâConnor said the district will send out letters to let all parents to know whether a student failed or passed.
Those that passed will of course move on to the next grade-level, barring the completion of other requirements to do so.
Those that failed will be broken down into two groups, according to OâConnor.
The first group will be comprised of special education students that didnât pass.
There will be remediation provided for the group from now until the end of the school year, at which time a specific case conference which be held with teachers, parents and administrators for each student to determine what level the student should be placed in for the next school year.
The first group according to the Indiana Department of Education, do not need to re-take the test.
The second group will be those general education students who did not pass.
A general reading program will be implemented from now until the end of the year, which will give those students an intense dose of remediation.
The students will be also be invited to attend âCamp Read-A-Lotâ, a reading camp being implemented in the summer, as well as re-taking the test.
