Patricia Giessler, 83
Patricia L. Giessler, 83, former resident of rural Columbia City, died Friday, June 7, 2013, at Sylvania Care and Rehabilitation Center, Sylvania, Ohio where she had been a resident since July of 2011.
Born June 6, 1930 in Lima, Ohio, she was the third child of Albert E. C. and Olive E. (Wilson) Fritz.
Her formative years were spent in Fort Wayne, rural Columbia City and Toledo, Ohio.
In February of 1949, she married Bobby A. Thompson and made a home in Toledo.
In 1972, she returned to Fort Wayne and in 1975 married Gordon Giessler. After Mr. Giesslerâ€™s passing in 1983, she moved to Shriner Lake, Columbia City.
While in Toledo, she raised a family, worked as a photographerâ€™s assistant and developed a love of oil painting. In Indiana, she continued painting and became a professional floral designer working for Scottâ€™s Food, Frankâ€™s Green House and Broadview Florist.
She is survived by four sons; Michael A. (Ann) Thompson of Toledo, Ohio; James E. (Patricia) Thompson of Toledo; Stephen A. Thompson of Fort Wayne, and Samuel A. (Isabella) Thompson of Columbia City; a daughter, Bobbie Ann (Joseph) Bettinger of Toledo; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Geraldine Phares of Richmond, Va. and Darlene Welch of Churubusco; sister-in-law, Marsha Leininger and special friend, Carl (Bud) Schanbacher of Fort Wayne.
In addition to her parents and husband, Gordon, she was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Lynn and a brother, Edward W. Fritz..
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, with visitation from 1:30 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be in the South Park Annex Cemetery.
