AVILLA â€” Patricia Opal Reed, 82, of Avilla, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at Provena Sacred Heart Home.
Mrs. Reed was born in Kendallville April 14, 1929, to the late Clifford John Barker and Opal Daisey (Helmer) Becker.
She graduated from Kendallville High School in 1946 and married Jack Phillip Reed Aug. 24, 1947, at the Wayne Center United Methodist Church near Kendallville.
Pat was a bookkeeper and was employed with Parker Nivens Chevrolet in Kendallville for 18 years.
She also assisted Ron Everage when he began Everage Motor Sales in Stroh.
Pat was a dedicated and loving mother and grandma. She loved spending time together as a family.
She enjoyed traveling and playing cards, especially euchre.
She and Jack loved to go dancing. They ballroom danced and square danced together for many years.
When she and Jack lived on the farm north of Kendallville, she helped with the chores and raised a big garden every year.
Pat was a member of the Wayne Center United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Jack Reed of Avilla; two sons, Larry and Janet Reed of Columbia City and Steve and Debbie Reed of Greensboro, N.C.; a daughter, Nancy and Tony Blomeke of Kendallville; five grandchildren, Jeff and Monica Reed of Columbia City, Doug and Mika Reed of Columbia City, Phillip Reed of Greensboro; Ashley and Andrew Bigelow of Auburn and Austin Blomeke of Kendallville; two stepgrandchildren, Kathleen Genusa and Andrew Langston; seven great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Eric Reed, who died in 1993, and her brother, Richard Barker, who died in 2000.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Hite Funeral Home. There will be an hour of visitation prior to the start of the service.
Officiating the funeral service will be Pastor Sherrie Long and Provena Sacred Heart Home Chaplain Tom Novy.
Burial will be at Lake View Cemetery in Kendallville.
Preferred memorials may be made to Wayne Center United Methodist Church.
Casketbearers will be her grandsons, Jeff, Doug, Phil Reed, Andrew Bigelow, Austin Blomeke and Wayne Hasselman.
