Paul Konger, 83

Paul T. Konger, 83, a resident of rural Albion, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, May 11, 2014, at his home in Green Township following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Konger was born on the family farm in Green Township Aug. 26, 1930, a son of Clarence and Mildred (Emge) Konger, and spent his entire lifetime there.
He graduated from Churubusco High School in 1948, and retired from Dana Corporation in Fort Wayne in 1991 after 30 years. He was also engaged in farming in Green Township most of his adult life.
A member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ege, he was also a member of its Holy Name Society, and the Garrett Knights of Columbus 1790.
In his leisure time he enjoyed Chicago Cubs baseball, Indiana University basketball, was a friend to many, and most especially loved and cherished his family.
On June 19, 1954, he was married at Ege to Verdonna “Tootie” O’Connell. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Mike (Beth) Konger of Albion, Jenny (Mike) Mohrman of Churubusco, Cindy (Hayes) McBride of Albion, Amy (Mike) Philbee of Columbia City, and Matt (Michelle) Konger of Albion; a brother, John (Susie) Konger of Albion; his sisters, Rosalie Houser and Pat (Doug) Bauman, both of Fort Wayne, and Kathleen (Glenn) Bonar of Churubusco; seven grandchildren, Todd Papenbrock, Lucas (Jennifer) Konger, Joshua (Katie) McBride, Jessica (Kyle) Kater, Brad Geist, Mallory Geist, and Derek Philbee; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson Ben Konger Aug. 7, 2004.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ege with Father Danney Pinto as the celebrant.
The family will receive friends at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Ege Catholic Cemetery, Noble County.
